Question

What is the rationale for canceling It's Deductible (a tax-related product) during the middle of the tax year???

Why would Intuit choose to cancel a tax-related service in the middle of the tax year - without much warning at that?

It is absolutely Intuit's prerogative to cancel a service or product whenever they choose; however, since it is a date-sensitive service (ie, it coincides with the tax year), wouldn't it make more sense from both a data-completion perspective and align with simple, good customer service to end the product's availability on December 31 and keep the data available until at least April 15th?

Very myopic thinking....

Not to be unkind or anything, but ItsDeductible users should have heeded the signal a couple of years ago when Intuit first made an attempt to discontinue the program and then, after some time, relented and extended it for two years. At that point, everyone should have realized that ItsDeductible was on borrowed time.

You should also be aware that it's a service that apparently very few TurboTax customers used (or else it would not have been discontinued). FYI, over 90% of individual income tax return filers do not itemize deductions and, most likely, those who do may not have a lot, if any, charitable donations to report (at least not to the extent where they need a program to keep track of them).

I agree on all points.

But if Intuit decided to extend the service 9as it did in 2023), then that extension should be in increments that align with the tax calendar.  Canceling mid-year with little advance warning leaves the user base (small, but still 100K users by Intuit's own accounting) literally stranded.  My main disappointment is not with the decision to cancel the service (although I found it extremely useful) but with the lack of customer consideration with the communication and timing of the cancellation.

I understand and have no explanation for the date other than speculation that they wanted to end ItsDeductible (and data retention) prior to the release of the 2025 tax year programs.
