We are paying the 2016 taxes on our house this week. Is this deductable on our 2016 taxes or do we have to put this on our 2017 taxes?

If you are a cash-basis taxpayer (as most of us are), then you would take the deduction in the year you pay the expense.
In your case, you would put it on your 2017 taxes.
