Question

Trying to claim car repairs, not milage. However the system will not let me proceed without putting in mileage. When I put it in it gives me a credit. I cannot claim both

Should I fully delete the car from the return if I am using it for work? If not can I somehow process the return without any mileage being put in?

You are asking from TT Deluxe. If self-employed, you must upgrade to claim these expenses

TurboTax asks you about the mileage to determine the percentage of business use of the vehicle.  If you qualify to deduct vehicles expenses, you can still claim your actual expenses.  It is important to note that employees can no longer deduct unreimbursed expenses such as vehicle expenses, tools, etc. on their Federal return due to Tax Reform that has suspended Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions for tax years 2018 through 2025.  Vehicle expenses are still deductible is you are a business owner.  Also, some states also still allow a deduction for unreimbursed employee expenses.
