Question

if I had to sell my house after the first year that I got the partial reimbursement amount for the home energy credit can I apply for the second part this year

I received the original energy efficient credit for my home last year. if I had to sell my home this year can I claim the carry forward credit for this year

It depends.  The Home Efficiency Energy Credits are not able to be carried forward.  They are use it or lose it credits.  These are the credits for things like doors, windows, insulations, heat pumps, etc.

 

If you had the residential energy credit, for something like solar panels, then this credit can be carried forward and applied towards this years taxes.
