Question

I live in WA; we have sales tax, not income tax. I have 2 homes; 1 is a vacation home. Can I claim actual sale tax paid on labor and materials in both zip codes?

Different local tax rates vary in washington state, making some areas total 8% and others 10%. For these taxes I really pay, can't I claim that amount?

Yes.  When you enter the general rate, you could put that you lived half time in one zip code and the other half of the year in the other zip code.   So add two lines to the Places you Lived screen.

You can deduct the sales tax paid on the following items only if it was the same as your general sales tax rate:

- Aircraft
- Boats
- Mobile homes
- Manufactured housing
- Building materials for major home improvements
