Do I get a tax benefit if I lease a hybrid vehicle and have an electric charging station installed at my house? I charge the vehicle every day.

Lease began in 2025. Personal use vehicle. Average about 10000 miles per year. Charging daily for about 7 hours.

No.  You do not get a tax benefit for the lease of a hybrid vehicle.  In order to claim a tax credit for an EV, the vehicle must be electric (not hybrid) and be purchased, not leased.  A lease would not qualify for the Car Loan Interest deduction.

For the charging station, that depends on your location.  In order to claim a the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit for the charging station, in addition to being placed in service in the tax  year and being installed on your main home, you must live in an eligible census tract. If you do not live in the eligible census tract, you cannot claim the credit.

If you are eligible for the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit, you would claim it by selecting the following in TurboTax:

  1. Federal
  2. Deductions and Credits
  3. Energy Efficient Vehicle Charging Station

Note, this is a non-refundable credit which means it can reduce your tax liability, but it itself will not result in a refund if you already have $0 tax liability.

Depending on which state you live in, you may or may not qualify for a state credit.  Which state do you live in?
