Question

Deluxe when Foreign Account more than $10K but less than $50K

I have a foreign bank account, and during the last calendar year, I had more than $10,000 in it but less than $50,000.

TurboTax says I don’t need to report the foreign account because I had less than $50,000, but I’m still being required to upgrade to Deluxe.

Do I need Deluxe? If not, should I be checking “no” to having a foreign account and filing a separate foreign account-related form for the over $10,000 amount?

(a) the suggestion to upgrade to  "Deluxe" generally  would have been based on the complexity of your tax situation.  Since I cannot see your return, suggest you  check the forms supported   by the On-Line Deluxe version  vs.  your current selection.  Sorry , I could not be more helpful

(b) While FATCA ( form 8938 ) is filed  with your return , a foreign bank account ( foreign liquid assets ) reporting is required if you meet the threshold for FBAR form ---- this is filed  ONLY on-line  at  BSA-efile  or Fincen.gov  using form 114.  Here is a reference  from the IRS  -->  Comparison of Form 8938 and FBAR requirements | Internal Revenue Service

Is there more I can do for you ?

If you need more on this or similar, please feel welcome to add to this  thread ( public) or PM me  ( just NO PII -- Personally Identifiable Information).
