DCFSA Reimbursement: Does it matter which spouse pays the daycare provider?
I’m enrolled in a Dependent Care FSA through my employer. My wife and I file our taxes jointly, and our child is our dependent.
We have a setup where I handle most of our other household expenses, and my wife pays the daycare expenses from her account. If I submit those expenses to my employer’s DCFSA and get reimbursed (pre-tax funds credited back to me), is that completely fine from an IRS perspective?
In other words, does it matter which spouse actually paid the daycare provider, as long as:
We file jointly.
The child is our dependent.
The expense is for daycare.
The expense hasn’t been reimbursed elsewhere.
Just want to make sure we’re handling this correctly.
