Can I deduct the sales tax paid on a new car purchased in 2016. I wasn't able to apply that to last year as I did not itemize (TX)
No. You cannot claim sales tax you paid in 2016 on a 2017 tax return. Sales tax is an itemized deduction. if you did not itemize in 2016 then you could not use it then either.
