Can I deduct the cost of a shed I purchased in 2017 for storing items related to my job?

Yes, that would be considered a deduction.

You would need to consider whether it is used 100% for your job, or if there is any personal use and adjust the cost according to the percentage of business use.

If you are an employee paid with a W-2, this would be included on Form 2106 for Employee Business Expenses.  Be aware that in order for you to receive a tax benefit claiming expenses on Form 2106, you must be using Schedule A for itemized deductions (not the standard deduction), and your total employee business expenses must exceed 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) before any deduction is included. 

If you are self-employed filing Schedule C, then the cost of the shed would be included as a business expense.  Depending on the cost of the shed, it may be an asset that needs to be depreciated.
