I am a cosignor on the mortgage and was promised the property, but my name is not on the deed. Can I claim mortgage interest on my taxes?

Yes, you can deduct mortgage interest if you are legally obligated for the debt as in the case of a co signer.

    To enter mortgage interest

    • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
    • Click on Deductions and Credits
    • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
    • Under Your Home
    • On Mortgage Interest, click on the start or update button
