Question

California Transportation Improvement Fee - based on vehicle value, separate from VLF - is it deductible?

California has a Transportation Improvement Fee component of its registration fee.  Therefore, the registration portion of my renewals - separate from VLF - are different for different vehicles.  It seems that this is a "fee based on the value of the vehicle" and should be deductible in addition to my VLF.  How would I enter that in TT?

A car registration fee is deductible if it is a yearly fee based on the value of your vehicle and you itemize your deductions.

In TurboTax Online, report the vehicle registration fee as follows:

    1. Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
    2. Down the left side of the screen, click on Deductions and credits.
    3. Click the down arrow to the right of Cars and Other Things You Own.
    4. Click to the right of Car Registration Fees.

    See this TurboTax Help.
