Question

Box 2 on my 1098 Mortgage Interest Statement says 0.00 but turbo tax says it must have a value. This is for a heloc we first used 2/18 so the balance 1/1/18 was zero

The program doesn't like box 2 to be blank, but if you enter a 2018 origination date into box 3, you can continue and the error will be eliminated. After you enter a 2018 date, click "Back" to get rid of the error, or just click Continue to move forward.

But my origination date is in 2017. It was a HELOC we didn't use until 2018. If I enter $1.00 it will work but I'm not sure if I should do that. thanks
