Question

As a rideshare driver, I usually deduct the miles. But this year I had a traffic accident for which I had to rebuilt my car. May I deduct both the miles and this expense?

I know that standard mileage deduction excludes regular maintenance expenses - but this one was not about maintenance, it was about rebuilding the vehicle after being hit by another driver.

My regular insurance doesn't cover accidents occurred while driving with Lyft/Uber. Lyft offered their insurance - which has a $2,500 deductible. In other words, I had to pay those 2.5K out of my pocket.
