You do not get a tax benefit for making a contribution to a 529 account on your federal taxes. The tax benefit for these accounts are that the income earned on the amounts contributed are not taxes as long as the account is used for educational purposes.

You may get a tax deduction on your state tax return for making a contribution to a 529 account. The Turbo Tax program will ask you about contributions as you complete your state tax return.
