Pre-paid International Education expenses

I paid half of my tuition for my Master in France in December 2016. However, the Master (full-time) started on January 3rd 2017. Is this amount deductible in 2016? if not, would it be deductible in 2017? How can I select an international school in your system? the name of the school is EDHEC Business School (France)

Yes, you can claim qualified expenses for an academic period that starts during 2016 or the first three months of the next year.

However, you can only deduct the expenses if your school is a qualified educational institution for education tax credit purposes. A qualified school is any college, university, or other post-secondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program Administered by the U.S. Department of Education.  Most foreign schools are not.  Please refer to the  U.S. Federal Student Aid link to check if your Business School is qualified educational institution for tax education purposes.
