Wife has Department of education loans that are in default. I had a small income of 5500 Being self-employed. Am I able to file injured spouse. My wife is the breadwinner of the family

Yes, you can file form 8379 with your tax return to prevent the IRS from offset your share of the refund.

 

If as you said, your wife is the breadwinner of the family, all or most of the refund may be her share and will be offset to repay her delinquent student loans.

 

To file form 8379, please read the instructions in this TurboTax Help topic.
