If you enter the wrong student, you'll have to delete all the info and start over. Go through the entire education interview until you reach a screen titled "Your Education Expenses Summary". Click delete next to the student's name. You'll then get the "Your Education Expenses Summary" screen again. Click the "Add a student" button.
I didn't enter the wrong student. I only entered myself. I did already try deleting and starting over, and it still pulls his information from last year, that I never entered this year in any shape or form as he finished school in 2020 and I was the only one in school 2021.
Go through the entire education expenses section of your return until you reach the screen titled “Your Education Expenses Summary”, then follow these steps:
yep, already did that, when I completely deleted the entire form and started over. Just spent over an hour on the phone with customer support and her last words were "well we will hope there are no problems at filing." and "if there are problems, we have your back." but no one can fix it.
Let's try back to the beginning;
In TurboTax (TT), enter at:
Federal Taxes Tab (Personal for H&B version)
Deductions & Credits
-Scroll down to:
--Education
--Education Expenses
Click update
On the next screen click delete (assuming your the only student listed)
On the next screen click confirm
On the next screen click add a student
Yes, I’ve done that. Three times now. It still shows my husband’s school from 2020, not mine, but when I open it it shows my school. I was on the phone over an hour. Rep couldn’t solve it but wished me “hope” that it would transfer correctly to the IRS.
So you're saying that the TurboTax display screen shows the wrong school?
As long as the forms that are being sent to the IRS are correct, you don't need to worry.
However, if you are using TurboTax Online, try closing the program, clearing Cache and Cookies and re-opening the program.
Go through the Education section from beginning to the very end.
Sometimes info 'hangs' in the metaverse.
