While filling out my tax return I came to a page that said "It turns out that XXX's Scholarship Grant counts as income". How do I do that, logged into his account?

This is for income not accounted for in his 1098-T. It is for scholarship, grant and in kind housing costs occurring during the course of a job he had at the college last summer. I followed some instruction I read online to do this using the section "Deduction and Credits". But that section doesn't ask any followup questions so this amount can be added as income. The dialog just ends after determining he isn't eligible for a tax break.

To enter scholarships, grants, stipends NOT INCLUDED on your Form 1098-T:

  1. Type scholarships in the search box and click search.
  2. Click on Jump to scholarships.

or if the Jump to doesn't work, under the Deductions & Credits tab, scroll down to Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T) and Edit/Add.

  1. On the Your Education Expenses Summary screen, Edit the student.
  2. On the Here's Your Education Summary screen, scroll down to Scholarships/Grants (for all schools).
  3. On the Your Education Expenses Summary screen, Edit the student.
  4. On the Did XXX receive a Scholarship or Grant in 2018? screen, answer Yes. A pop up screen will appear where you can enter the scholarship amount. See the screenshot below.
  5. Continue with the onscreen interview.

Taxable scholarships appear on Form 1040 Line 1 with SCH in front of the line number. See  How do I preview my TurboTax Online return before filing?

Are you asking if his scholarships are taxable because he used them for non-eligible school expenses?

This was essentially a summer internship job, that he used to earn money. I assume it is taxable. I am asking how I get it entered into Turbotax so it shows up as income.
