You can only claim qualified education expenses like tuition, fees and other related expenses. Expenses that do not qualify are room and board, insurance, medical expenses, transportation and others. For more details visit IRS Qualified Education Expenses.
To enter your education expenses in TurboTax follow these steps:
Go through all the questions, one wrong answer could have disqualified you from the credit. For more information on education credits and their requirements see the TurboTax help article:
You can't enter those room and board expenses yet. This is a known glitch in TurboTax (TT). They are working on it (no announced fix date). The 2025 education and 529 sections appear totally redesigned, from last year.
Thanks - appreciate the answer - this section is very different from the 2024 version. Hopefully it will be updated in the Feb 27 update!
