Under box 2 of my 1098-T, the amount only accounts for my Fall/17 semester (I went both SP and FA/17). Box 5 accounts for both semesters, making it look like I profited.

My scholarship only paid for tuition, so I ended up paying out of pocket for books and supplies. So overall I had about $3,500 covered last year total with Spring and Fall. But box 2 only accounts for FA, so about $1,400 (Took less classes). I definitely didn't receive money into my bank or anything from this scholarship, they paid directly to the school. I'm trying to get answers from my school but it's not helping, I just don't know why it's taking money from my return and making me owe to state.

Some schools bill the Spring semester of 2017 in the last semester of 2016 and report it in box 2 of the 2016 form 2016.

Your 2017 form 1098 does not show that spring semester of 2017 again in box 2. If you actually paid that semester in 2017, you can change the amount of tuition that you paid in TurboTax.

In TurboTax, when filling out your form 1098-T, enter only the amount in Box 2, even if both boxes 1 and 2 are filled.

Under box 2, on the 1098-T screen is a link: What if this is not what (student name) paid to the school? Click on that and you will be given a chance to enter what was actually paid in 2017.
