two 1098s due to lender change, no refinance

two 1098s due to lender change, no refinance, how do I record this? I'm only seeing refinance options which is giving incorrect results.

Enter the first (oldest) 1098 and indicated that it was secured by home 

Select BOTH "new loan with points" (if points were paid) and "bought or improved home in 2024"

Enter points (if applicable, if not, please disregard) 

Select YES "This loan was paid off or refinanced with a different lender in 2024". 

(NOTE; If you indicate NO to "paid off or refinanced", the program will add the mortgage balances)

No, not most recent 1098

"HELOC or refinance?" NO

Yes, only used on this home

The points (if applicable) and interest should be added and reported on Schedule A

Enter the second 1098 

Yes, secured by home

Indicate that you bought or improved the home with this loan, but  DO NOT indicate that it was a NEW loan, DO NOT ENTER POINTS A SECOND TIME

Yes, most recent 1098

Neither HELOC nor refinance 

Yes, only used on this home

DONE

All interest (and points if applicable) are reported as deductions on Schedule A

 "Smart Check" may ask if either loan was a refinance.

Hello,

I am entering the 1098s in order however I was being prompted with options "refinance-related".

There are no points, this home was not refinanced or purchased in 2024. Lender servicing changed.

I'm actually not getting this question "This loan was paid off or refinanced with a different lender in 2024". (I'm using H&B 2024, Desktop, Windows).

I found that the two 1098s had different origination dates, which should be the same.  (They were different by 5 days). They also have different outstanding mortgage amounts, diff is ~$25K. I made these the same and have now been able to move forward with the correct prompts/questions from the tool.... so far 🙂
