My niece started college in 2018, but received a 1098T for "Amounts billed for tuition, etc" in 2017. How do we enter it? There was nothing else paid. It's box 2 and 7.

It also asks if she was a full, half, or less than half time student in 2017.  She wasn't a student at all in 2017.  She started on Jan 22, 2018.  She hasn't paid anything else out of pocket.  When all is entered to the best of our knowledge, it says that she's receiving a "lifetime learning credit" of $799.  Is this correct?  It also says that she isn't receiving the "American Opportunity Credit" because she wasn't at least a  half time student.  It also asks if she's working on an associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree.  She wasn't working on any because she didn't start until 1-2018.  We need to find out how to answer these questions in Turbo tax so it's correct.

For 2017, treat an academic period beginning in the first 3 months of 2018 as if it began in 2017 if qualified education expenses for the student were paid in 2017 for that academic period. See Prepaid expenses, later.

There was nothing paid in 2017 up to this very day, 2/8/2018.  She said the money won't come until the middle of this month.  She is full time now, as of 1-22-2018 and working toward a Bachelor's degree.
