If TurboTax is allowing you to claim the AOTC and you are a graduate student, it sounds like you answered one of the questions incorrectly.

Go back through the education credit questions and look for the question that asks if you completed your Bachelor's degree or the first 4 years of school.  When you tell the program you have already completed this, it will not give you the option to claim the AOTC, but it will give you the Lifetime Learning Credit.
