Thanks for any help! I paid for grad school in January 2018, which is when I started school. Can I expense that on my taxes this year, or do I wait until next year?

If you started school in 2018 and made the payments in 2018, then you will have to wait until next year to include those payments as educational expenses for your 2018 tax return.  You can't include them for this year (2017 return).
