Should I be paying NYS tax on my 1098-T and additional $12,000 Fellowship? If so, why is it not appearing on my state return?

- Federal Taxes > Deductions & Credits > Education Expenses > Expenses & Scholarships > Click Yes to enter education expenses > Enter the 1098-T as received where the scholarship monies will be reported.
- If you paid more for tuition and fees than shown on your 1098-T there is a pulldown box under box 2 to report actual payments (do not include room and board), they are reported further in the interview.
Make sure to complete the whole interview section and at the end there will be "maximize my education credits" button that you must hit.
The amount of your scholarship in excess of tuition and fees would be recorded federally and flow to your NY return unless you specifically allocated the monies out in the NY interview.
If the money is not showing, make sure you go completely through the NY interview about the education section.... It may need your entries.
