Post Graduate Dietetic Internship - not a University, through http://www.pncddi.com. must have to take CDR Examination. "tuition" is $10500.00 plus other expenses.

My Daughter is in a Dietetic Internship (DI)  which is required Before she can take the CDR Exam (Commission on Dietetic Registration Exam)  Universities offer these, but not enough of them for all the students who need them.  There are Accredited Companies who offer them as well.  We went with The Priority Nutrition Care Distance Dietetic Internship http://www.pncddi.com  "Tuition" was $10500 plus many other expenses including an orientation in Baltimore MD for 3 days.  I doubt they will be sending out 1098T's.  So the question i have is How do i claim these  expenses for education?

In order to claim education expenses for an education credit, the school must generally be eligible to participate in federal school loan programs.  The link below takes you to a brief article that lets you access the list of eligible institutions.  Being accredited by a state or federal professional board is not the same thing.  Check here first to see if your institution qualifies.

If the institution qualifies, enter your expenses under Education Expenses in Deductions and Credits or just enter Education Expenses in the search window on the upper right and then click on the Jump To

Expenses That Don't Qualify
Qualified education expenses don't include amounts paid for: Insurance; Medical expenses (including student health fees); Room and board; Transportation; or Similar personal, living, or family expenses. This is true even if the amount must be paid to the institution as a condition of enrollment or attendance.

I'm in the same situation.  My daughter was accepted into this PNCDDI internship (that started in January) and we paid $11,000 this past fall for this nationwide requirement for her to become a registered dietitian.  It's ridiculous that this money can't be deducted on taxes.
