That was really generous of you.  Unfortunately,  it is not deductible for you, since he is not your dependent.  Gifts given to indivuduals are not deductible.   I kind of hate to say this but if you gave him over $14,000 you need to fill out a 709 gift tax form--although the gift will not be taxed.

Turbo Tax does not support the gift tax form 709, but here is a link:
