No 1098-T. Mom paid all my tuition. I'm not her dependent

Hello,

I got no 1098-T for 2017. My mom paid all my tuition, and I'm 20, and not a dependent on anyone's return. Do I have to enter the amounts paid by mom on my behalf in my return?

Thanks for your help

Nick

Since she did not claim you, you are eligible for education credit if qualified expenses were greater than any scholarship you received.  The amount she paid is like a gift to you and you can use that gift to claim that credit even though she actually paid the tuition.
