My wife is in Grad School and had to purchase (plane tickets, hotel stays, application fees) attached to the grad program. Does this qualify for ED expenses?

No. Plane tickets, hotel stays are not qualified expenses.

The application fee is, if she enrolls in the same year as the fee was paid
