My school has changed its reporting method for 2018 (box 3). Why is Box 1 is showing an amount different from the amount I paid the school out of pocket and by FAFSA?

The amount that is im box 1 is astronomically lower than what I paid. What gives?

You need to contact your school to find out why the amount they entered is different than what you think it should be. The IRS now requires the amount paid to be shown in box 1 and will no longer accept an amount billed in box 2.
