My refund got changed because I answered a question not based on credits but amount of time I have been in college

TurboTax does not ask about 'credits' in the Education Expenses section, but does ask if you are 'at least a half-time student' and whether you have claimed the American Opportunity Credit for four years previously. 

Type 'education expenses' in the Search window, then 'Jump to education expenses' to get back to that section to EDIT your entries.
