My employer paid $9,025 in 2018 towards my MBA and I have a 1098-T, but the has me sharing the expense and took $2,000 out of my check in p/r deductions. Can I claim?

An employer can contribute up to 5,250 tax-free for an employee's education. Anything over that amount is taxable income for the employee. 

This means that any expenses over 5,250 can be claimed by you.
