My child is a full time student and made 11,389 at a part time job and has a tuition statement. Can I claim her and can she file her own taxes?

My child is a full time student and made 11,389 at a part time job and has a tuition statement. Can I claim her and can she file her own taxes?

It depends on your child's age at the end of 2016.

If your child is under 24 at the end of 2016 and a full-time student, you can claim her as a dependent if you provided more than half of her support, regardless of her income. You can also claim her education expenses (on form 1098-T). She will file her own tax return and indicate that she is being claimed as a dependent in the Personal Info section of TurboTax.

If she is 24 or older, you cannot claim her as a dependent if she had gross income of more than $4,050 in 2016. She will file her own tax return and claim her education expenses.

It depends on your child's age at the end of 2016.
