When the designated beneficiary on Form 1099-Q is someone other than yourself, you should link the 1099-Q to the Qualified Education Expenses Worksheet in TurboTax. This worksheet is where you enter the education expenses paid for that beneficiary during the tax year.
Since one of your daughters is already listed as a dependent and linked to the Dependent Student Information Worksheet, the other 1099-Q for a different beneficiary should be linked to the Qualified Education Expenses Worksheet instead.
In the worksheet, enter the total qualified education expenses paid for that beneficiary. This includes tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for enrollment or attendance at an eligible educational institution.
This linkage ensures the distribution reported on Form 1099-Q is properly matched against qualified expenses, affecting whether the distribution is taxable.
