Is my finacial aid for school considered a grant

Any financial aid that does not need to be repaid is considered a scholarship or a grant. For tax purposes, both of these financial aid items have the same effect on your return.

If the financial aid needs to be repaid, it is considered a loan. With the exception of paying student loan interest, this will not effect your return (i.e. limit education tax breaks or, possibly result in taxable income).
