If a check was dated 12/29/17 for the spring college bill but not posted until 1/8/2018 can  I claim it in 2017?

If the spring college bill was paid from annuity and the check was dated 12/29/2017 but wasn’t posted until 1/8/2018?

If you paid it in 2017, then you use 2017 as the year paid for tax purposes.

Keep good detailed records of this in your tax folder should someone question it later.
