If you have already taken the AOTC for your dependent child for four years of college, you may be able to take the Lifetime Learning Credit (LTLC) this year.  There is no limit for the number times you can claim the LTLC.

You are eligible to claim the Lifetime Learning Credit if all of the following requirements are met:

  • You paid qualified education expenses for higher education for your dependent child
  • Your modified adjusted gross income is less than $67,000 ($134,000 if you are married filing jointly).  [The credit is reduced between $57,000 and $67,000 ($114,000 and $134,000 if you are married filing jointly].
  • You are not filing Married Filing Separately
