Hi officer,
My husband (32 year old) took a student loan and currently is a at least half time student under his Master program, he received Form 1098-T for 2017, my question is can that tuition expense be claimed as Tuition expense under WI State tax as well? We have already included that tuition expense information in our 2017 Federal tax return. And I got stuck in state tax filing stage now, just wondering will that be duplicate claim if I put it in state tax? Thanks!

Yes, if loan funds were used to pay Education Expenses, that is considered 'out of pocket' expense and can be claimed on your tax return.
What you entered for Education Expenses in your Federal return should flow through to your WI state return.
However, WI may give extra credit for a State University or State 529 savings plan. It is best to check with the Wisconsin Dept. of Revenue on this.
