tuition for undergraduate college?  you need to be specific as this is a public forum and we have no access to your information. Which credits did you get last year?  What other changes to income happened?  The AOTC was $2,500.The Lifetime Learning Tax Credit provides a tax credit of up to $2,000 per taxpayer for education expenses.   You could only get one of them.

Sorry, and thanks for  the response! This is for a Master's program. I did not qualify for any education credits for 2016or 2017,  but  was able to write off tuition payments  last tax year. Income increased some for the current tax year, but I don't  see income as a qualifier for deducting tuition.

The tuition and fees deduction can reduce the amount of your income subject to tax by up to $4,000.  Sorry to say, that deduction expired at the end of 2016.   The Lifetime Learning Credit is the only one available for graduate school, up to $2000.  See here for details for eligibility.  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/college-and-education/take-advantage-of-two-education-tax-credi...
