The error 'Person on the Return Worksheet:Enrollmentstatus must be entered' usually means TurboTax expects enrollment status for that person, often connected to education credits. Since this person isn't a student and not on a Form 1098-T, the software may have a leftover enrollment question filled incorrectly or missing.
To update or clear this in TurboTax Online:
1. Go to the Federal section.
2. Select Deductions & Credits.
3. Scroll to the Education section and select Revisit or Start.
4. Review all persons listed for education credits and update enrollment status or remove education entries for the person who is not a student.
This should resolve the error by ensuring no incorrect student status is assigned to that person.
Hi -- thank you for the response. I followed the steps you provided and it did not work. I am still getting the same error message. It is saying I need to update my spouse's enrollment status on his Person on the Return Worksheet. I also tried deleting the worksheet from the Form list but it says it cannot be deleted.
Your spouse's enrollment status error - not on 1098-T - putting pieces together - I wonder if you have a1099-Q but not claiming the student.
If you have a 1099-Q that was used for eligible expenses, room and board, tuition, etc. it should not be entered according to IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education.
A 1098-T is only entered when you are claiming the dependent and they would be on your return. You need to clarify your situation for additional help.
Hi -- thank you for your reply. I have 2 dependent children for which I had a distribution from their 529 accounts to pay for elementary school tuition. I received a 1099-Q for each of these distributions. I have my 2 dependent children listed on the return. And one point I mistakenly clicked that my spouse had received the distribution. I went back and changed it to say my two dependents received the 1099-Q distributions. I suspect there is a bug in the return now that won't clear that my husband does not need an enrollment status. I don't know what to do because I cannot e-file with this error and now Turbo Tax is also not letting me print the mail in forms.
Also -- the program is now telling me I don' t need to fill out the 1099-Q anymore because my dependents received the distribution.
I'm getting this bug noted on the internet below and the suggestions below will not fix it. I am using the online form and I cannot delete the sheet. How can this bug be fixed?
This is a known 2025 tax year bug in TurboTax (both Online and Desktop) triggered by 529 distributions (1099-Q) for K–12 students or incomplete student-status entries. Here's how to fix it quickly:
Switch to Forms View
Online: Click Forms (top-right) → Open Forms
Desktop: Press Ctrl+M (Windows) or Cmd+M (Mac)
Delete the Problem Worksheet
Scroll through all pages (use Next Page links) until you find Person on the Return Worksheet (note the typo "Retun" in some versions) for the person named in the error
Click the form name, then click Delete at the bottom
If you see a separate Enrollment Status or Student Status worksheet, delete that too
Clear Student Status for K–12 Students
Go back to Step-by-Step view
Navigate to Personal Info → select the dependent causing the error
Under Student Status (Part I):
Uncheck "Was a student in 2025"
Or leave all student-status fields blank (even for high schoolers using 529 funds)
Save and continue
Re-run Smart Check
Go to File → Review → Fix any issues
The error should now clear
