I’m a part-time 26 year old graduate student and I’m trying to claim $15k in education expenses from my 1098T. However, I’m not able to claim any as an individual. Why?

It’s all tuition and some misc expenses. No scholarships. Less than 90k salary.

You will not be eligible for the American Opportunity Credit this year since you're a graduate student Also, you must have a taxable income to be eligible to claim the Lifetime Learning Credit and the tuition and Fees Deduction as these credits are non-refundable.

Please view the IRS link below to see the qualifications for each type of education credit.
