You can deduct the interest if you meet the requirements for the student loan interest deduction. If the amount of interest is $600 or more you should have received a Form 1098-E.

The maximum amount of student loan interest that you can deduct is $2,500. For 2025 the maximum is reduced if your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) is more than $85,000 ($170,000 if married filing jointly).

You cannot claim the deduction if you are filing as married filing separately.
