I had a federal pell grant cover my tuition for 2016-2017 school year but didn't received 1098t. Help!

I was approved a federal pell grant for $5,815. $2,181 was paid towards towards the 2016 Fall semester  and I also received about $500+ from what was left over. $2,180 was the other half that was paid towards the current 2017 Spring semester. I did not receive a 1098t and was told that I am not going to receive one so I'm confused as to what information I need to provide.

You do not need to claim an education credit. You may need to report the portion of your Pell grant that may be taxable, however.

You seem to know very well what your costs were, so you don't need the 1098-T, which is just for information. When you enter your education expenses, simply report that you don't have a 1098-T and fill in the rest of the information. Besure to include the cost of your books and required supplies.

To get started entering you education credits in TurboTax Free Edition, type "education expenses" in the Search box, then select Jump to education expenses. The interview questions will guide you through how to enter.
