I graduated in May 2017 so I will not be receiving a 1098-T for 2017 because that semester was "billed" in 2016. The loan came through in January so can I claim anything?

If you did not pay any qualified education expenses during 2017, you would not qualify for any education credits.  If any of the tuition expenses were paid by your student loan during 2017, it is considered being paid by you, thus you can still claim those expenses on your 2017 tax return.  If any of the expenses were paid in 2018, you cannot claim them on your 2017 tax return.
