I entered the tuition and textbook credit on my Iowa return and it increased the amount I owe by $300. Am I entering this info incorrectly?

My experience is that those should be listed under deductions in the section that talks about education expenses.  Credits look your books were paid by someone and therefore the system is saying you have to pay something back.  Hope this helps.
