You can enter book expenses without a 1098-T. Search for education and use the Jump to link to be taken to that section (Your Education Expenses Summary). Add a Student if you are not already listed. Then click Continue. Then click on I don't have a 1098-T.
If you click on I qualify for an exception, you can add the school information.

Select I can't find the ID number - and leave all the amounts blank.
Then you will come to your Education Summary

From here, click on Other Education Expenses. You can add your textbook expense. You are not eligible for the American Opportunity credit without a 1098-T, but you can qualify for the Lifetime Learning credit.
