I did pay money out of pocket while going to school but i don't think my 1098-T states that. How do i go about that?

No, your 1098-T would only show what the school charged and received, tuition and fees.

You can add things that you had to pay for like books and even room and board.

The software should ask you about paying for books and other school supplies after you fill out the 1098-T

If for some reason it doesn't, please revisit the section:

• "Federal Taxes"
  
• "Deduction & Credits"
  
• "Education" ; "Expenses and Scholarships"

and add those out-of-pocket expenses
