I am trying to qualify for a tuition exemption. I have not received the proper tax forms from my university because I did not start attending until 2017.

In one of the help boxes it mentions I can deduct these expenses as long as I started 3 months into 2017. How do I handle this without the proper form?

If you paid tuition and required fees in 2016 for enrollment in early 2017, you should enter those in TurboTax.

You don't need the 1098-T from the school.  If you received one, that "2017" box would have been checked.

The IRS knows that there are temporary "mismatches" between when the school reports tuition and when you report tuition.
