It depends. Qualified education expenses, such as tuition, that are used to calculate the education tax benefits, are reduced by the amount of tax free educational assistance that you receive, so if all of your qualified education expenses were paid with tax free educational assistance, such as your GI bill, then you would not be able to claim a tax benefit. Please refer to the following FAQ to learn more about qualified education expenses. https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3300629

According to page 13 of Pub 970,under the heading, "no double benefit allowed", you cant "claim a credit based on qualified education expenses paid with tax free educational assistance such as a scholarship, grant, or assistance provided by an employer." For additional information, also refer to page 13 of Pub 970, under the heading, "tax free educational assistance" for more information. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p970.pdf
